Things at SupermarketSaver are barrelling along at a breathtaking rate. We’re diving head first into marketing campaigns, snazzy new internet stuff, and big new partnerships. The days are whizzing by like a blink, and suddenly it’s May! How did this wintry chill creep up on me so quietly?!
But before we get too carried away, lets recap on the last few months. At the end of February I had a great idea to slap a SupermarketSaver t-shirt onto my brother’s chest as he appeared on the TV show “The Crowd Goes Wild” vying for a spot in their group going to Melbourne for the Grand-Prix. The t-shirt we designed was incredible if I do say so myself (see the pics below) and the race was set. Not only did said brother lose the competition, he also had a maximum of 0.45seconds air-time. Epic fail. There goes that idea.
Onwards and upwards, we decided to focus more on giving stuff away to people who’d actually appreciation it! Our Subscribe and Win in March promo proved pretty popular. We gave away 5 $50 vouchers for SupermarketSaver and they’ve been gobbled up like the Cookie Monster on a rampage. Here’s Jas, one of our winners, congratulations to all of the others as well.
Since then we’ve been working hard on some mackin’ mother’s day specials, negotiating some pretty awesome partnerships (watch this space), processing our ever increasing orders and putting in some orders for exciting new products. It’s been a very busy few months, and we’ve sometimes needed a little extra motivation to get out of bed on these freezing mornings. I think I’ve found just the ticket…..
Things have been so frantically busy at SupermarketSaver, we haven’t even had a chance to Blog!
More and more orders are coming in each day – the guys down in the warehouse are now professionals at deodorant flavours, moisturiser types and baby products!
After a few bumps in the road we’re on track. We’re getting return visitors – some great feedback and more and more followers for our newsletter and through Facebook. It’s strange to think that not so long ago SupermarketSaver was just an idea a group of mates came up with at the pub – and now we’re effecting the lives of so many! (Ok effective their lives might be a little overdoing it – but making life simpler? Definitely!)
It’s almost time now to look at reordering more stock so if there’s anything you’d like to see that isn’t already on http://www.supermarketsaver.co.nz then let us know!
We’d love to hear from you 🙂
Phew. Manic day yesterday getting to the stage where everything was working, completing the millionth test order, creating some discount codes and formulating emails to family and friends. Very nerve wracking too – those people are the harshest critics! We’ve got a few orders to process from overnight… it’s all so new and exciting!
Now begins the slog to get SupermarketSaver out to the masses. We’re going to be hitting up Facebook, Twitter and emails to get some miiiiiiiiiiiint discounts and specials out there. It’s all about getting up and going for us, so now is the time to get on in there if you’re looking to chop that weekly grocery bill in half.
I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited about having some more cash in my back pocket. There are so many cool events and gigs coming up, and hopefully the sun will even come out at some time soon. Florence and the Machine, Big Day Out, The Wellington Sevens, The Datsuns, there are so many options, and now maybe I can spend more on these, and less on toothpaste and deodorant.
So, happy shopping, don’t hesitate to comment here, or give us some suggestions on the site. It’s all good.
Today is the day. We’re live.
This is the week! SupermarketSave
r is about to launch, (the date is undefined, there seems to be quite a bit to this building a website business!) and it’s all systems go.
The stock has arrived, which means that the warehouse smells nice and clean because of all the cleaning products, but also means that there is a lot of counting to do. With over 200 lines, and a pretty big initial order – there’s a lot of nitty gitty to get it all sorted. Top that with the usual craziness that go along with any shopping organisation at this time of year and you have bona fide mayhem!
Bless them, the warehouse team are trying to count, sort, and shelve amidst boxes from our sister company ProductSaver
and a job list a mile long. Better to be busy though right!?
SupermarketSaver and ProductSaver staff have been working through the weekend to get things sorted. Today has been all about building our initial ‘Grand Opening’ email, making sure we have all the prerequisites to host the DPS Payment System on our site, and learning more about Accounts. (eck! Luckily we have some pretty nifty software to make things run smoothly!)
Hopefully we can meet with the Top-guns (bosses) tomorrow who’ll give me the tick of approval and we’ll be off the ground. Let the madness begin – then hopefully a smooth 2012!
I had some grand ideas of writing the inaugural blog for SupermarketSaver about how things are all changing, but now I wonder – can it be change when you began with nothing? Isn’t that just starting something up?
Anyway you want to describe it, things are starting to happen here at the SupermarketSaver office. We’re spending a lot of time analysing spread-sheets to see just how big our savings can be so that we can still afford to pay the electricity bill, but can offer customers prices miles below those seen in the supermarkets. While the savings are exciting, studying spread-sheets is not the most exciting task. There ARE a lot of exciting things going on though. Firstly, the Cookie Time Fundraiser lady just came around to our office and took our order. Good-bye well intentioned fruit bowl. Then we’ve got the new SupermarketSaver Facebook page, which at the moment is being used to embarrass SupermarketSaver staff but will in the future let friends know all about savings and deals we’ll have going. (More deals? I know, madness right?). Get in early here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Supermarket-Saver/248782905166613
Then we have the shelving, which at the moment is a partially assembled pile of planks and joinery. With an active imagination one can see the potential lurking underneath but I think this a push for me and you to think of this as exciting. Not so the guys in the warehouse. Almost too much excitement. Think a little kid at Christmas.
While change can be a little unsettling, somehow it just seems to fit. Maybe it’s the General Election talk, with all the changes, publicity and uncertainty. I’ve heard that at the moment it doesn’t look like our Government will change very much, but its definitely a period of shuffling (and cups of tea). I bet those politicians are wishing SupermarketSaver were up and running already, I can just see John Key getting frustrated at running out of razors the morning he has an important morning tea meeting with John Banks.
Then on a grander scale (sorry Winston Peters but there ARE more important things that politicians) we have the can’tdecideifitsreallyhereyet summer weather. Can I get my jandals out yet? Or would that be taking dangerous and provocative risks? Summer is definitely on the way, but it’s just tickling us with its long fingers, there hasn’t yet been a full on bear hug. Maybe the real summer scorchers will coincide with SupermarketSavers launch. How fitting.
All these changes are inspiring, if a little overwhelming. I know here at SupermarketSaver (and probably in the Wellington Beehive) we’re looking forward to some consistency. Constant and dependable savings on a daily basis. Keeping things fresh and new, but offering 24/7 savings on big name brands is the goal. We’re well on the way.
